2013 was an enormous year for wedding DJ hire in Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane. With over 300 weddings booked and trusted with us last year, we can safely and proudly say that we most definitely have had the experience and expertise to be able to compile and publish such a list that contains the songs that we feel were a hit at weddings in 2013 in Australia.

These are tracks and tunes that had a massive impact on the outcome of a reception. They are hits that got everybody on the dance floor, they are songs that people had to put their cutlery down whilst eating to comment on how beautiful they thought this song was or just a tune that had everyone feeling good whilst celebrating people’s biggest days of their lives.

John Legend – All of Me
This beautiful ballad was the perfect choice for so many couples bridal waltz in 2013. John Legend hits the nail on the head with this one with the beautifully written lyrics, to the high and passionate notes hit higher in each and every chorus that goes past. Suits a slow and intimate first dance that so many couples opt for these days.

Lana Del Ray – Young & Beautiful
Not only beautifully poised, but also blessed with an angelic voice, Lana Del Ray has recorded a wedding classic that will be played for many years to come. Featured on the Great Gatsby Movie soundtrack, this song is perfect for the first dance, cutting of the cake or even during the formalities and dinner aspects of the night.

Mirrors – Justin Timberlake
This 2013 hit by JT, former member of the boy band N*SYNC is a great uplifting track which really suits to overwhelmingly joyous moment when the couple is cutting the cake. Many couples chose to share this special moment while vibing out to the melodic notes to Mirrors, quiet an epic track being 8 minutes long, however, there is a cut down radio version which is about half the length and coming in at 4 minutes.

Lorde – Royals
Lorde has had an amazing year, absolutely blowing up in 2013. This fresh on the block, New Zealand prodigy has made an absolute, down tempo hit at the rip and tender age of just 16 years old.

Riptide – Vance Joy
Australian pop music sensation, Vance Joy has released this feel good wedding track this year. The Melbourne lad released riptide late 2013 and had radio play and international success. A weird, but happy mix of nostalgia and folk music notes in it, this is a great track for times in between the dinner service and the cutting of the cake when you need to lift the mood of the wedding a bit.

Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines
It’s simple, play this song and you get people on the dance floor. This hit gets people of all ages dancing and singing along to get the wedding reception into party mode. Robin Thicke, a bit of a veteran in the game teams up with the very cool Pharrel and the ever original T.I and all of them come to the table to collaborate on this dance floor filling hit. A must play at all wedding celebrations.

Macklemore – Can’t Hold Us
Foot stomping, hand clapping and arm waving are just a few things you can expect when the DJ drops this track at some point in the night. With an almost gospel piano feel, this track is an energetic follow up to the 2012 hit Macklemore “Thrift Shop”. This track shows all the ‘haters’ that the duo also consisting of Ryan Lewis are not just a one hit wonder and truly have real talent, and party-starting material.

Avicii – Wake me up
Considered a little less orthodox from the EDM legend Avicii, this folk-tronic like song has people linking up arms on the dance floor and do-se-do-ing like it’s the 1960’s. Aloe Blacc provides amazing vocals for this truly unique dance hit which seems to be a great choice to play a little later in the night once people have had a few more drinks and more inclined to be a bit sillier.

Zedd – Clarity
Wow is one word that comes to mind when you hear this track. This song produced by a 23 year old German producer called Zedd is beautifully complimented by amazing female vocals which truly complete the song to make it one of those songs that you play towards the end of a wedding (provided the crowd is relatively young) and has everyone with their hands in the air and swaying side to side.

Empire of the Sun – Alive
Aussie grown duo, Empire of the Sun has had amazing success year on year, with 2013 not being any different. With an over the top film clip with a song to match, this song is absolutely a cracking anthem that has everyone feeling the power of love at wedding receptions. It is just one of those songs that makes you wanna sing out loud with a warm and joyous yell to make any wedding a brighter one.

Calvin Harris – Thinking about You
This man is no stranger to a radio hit, and has had songs like “Feel So Close” and “Spectrum” that have proven to be a hit in previous years. This year, thinking about you with vocals by Ayah Marar has the progressive house and melodic build up that just sends shiver down your back. Another song that is great towards the end of the night as you begin to wrap things up.

Drake – Hold on we’re going home
Feel like bringing the tempo of the night down a notch and have people slow dancing for the last couple of songs for the night? This fresh 2013 hit by Drake has just what you need. This R&B tune from his LP “Nothing was the same” shows a completely different side to Drake’s normal narcissistic out there rap songs.

Daft Punk – Get Lucky
The hit single off the much awaited Random Access Memories is a great selection for the last song of the night. Have everyone gather around in a circle and let this song ride out until it fades. With a totally different structure to such absolute hits like “One More Time” or “Around the world” but the same Daft Punk vibe. Teaming up with Pharrel Williams on this track to make it a magical send off to what was hopefully a magical night.

There you have it ladies and gentlemen, our round up of what was some of the most successful tracks to play at a wedding in 2013.
